History and Profile
The outdoor advertising company Heinz W. Ströer GmbH & Co. KG was founded in Cologne in 1963 by Heinz W. Ströer and initially specialized in billboards. In 1990, the company merged with the co-operator of another advertising agency that competed with Ströer. Heinz W. Ströer and his new business partner Udo Müller thus founded Ströer City Marketing GmbH, of which they each owned 50 percent. The company underwent another merger in 2002, when other acquired companies were integrated. The name was changed to Ströer Out-of-Home Media AG. In 2004, Ströer took over Deutsche Städte-Medien GmbH and in 2005, Deutsche Eisenbahn-Reklame. At that time, Ströer had a turnover of 385 million euros (2005) with 1,350 employees. In 2011, Ströer bought ECE flatmedia GmbH, then the market leader in digital brand communication and sales promotion in shopping centers. In 2015, Ströer Media bought the online platform t-online.de and the digital marketer Interactive Media from Telekom. Ströer offers its approximately 300,000 advertising spaces in the 200 largest German train stations, in and on subways and buses, at the airport, in the largest German shopping centers and digitally in online advertising. Since 2012, Ströer has also been offering marketing management for social influencers, such as YouTubers, with Tube One.
In 2010, the Ströer Out-of Home Media AG share was added to the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. In 2015, it was included in the MDAX, but has been back in the SDAX since 2018.

Business segments
out-of-home media
The company Ströer Media started with out-of-home media, such as posters or advertising columns, and is now one of the largest outdoor advertisers in Germany. In addition to the previously mentioned standard advertising media for outdoor advertising, posters and advertising columns, Ströer also offers more modern advertising techniques, such as illuminated advertising spaces, large advertising spaces such as billboards on building facades, rotating neon signs, city light columns (the modern version of advertising columns), advertising in and on means of transport, etc. The company also generates advertising revenue by setting up street furniture used as advertising media free of charge, such as bus shelters at tram or bus stops or large clocks. In addition to setting up the advertising media, Ströer Media also takes care of the care and maintenance of the advertising spaces.
online advertising
Ströer Media is also one of the German market leaders in internet advertising. The company has owned majority stakes in FreeXMedia, Business Ad, Adscale and Ströer Interactiv since 2012. The Ströer Group also includes websites such as giga.de, kino.de, Stayfriends, Statista and t-online.de. The latter is one of the largest websites for display advertising in Germany in terms of the number of users. In addition to placing ads on websites, Ströer also offers advertising campaigns for internet influencers with Tube One. In addition to marketing the influencer themselves, this also includes bringing in advertising customers who want to market their products through the influencer.
